Today MacKillop students honoured their House patron, Saint Mary MacKillop, who provided incredible service by educating children in Australian rural areas and for caring for the poor and elderly.

Sr MacKillop was born in Fitzroy in 1842 to Scottish parents and founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, who lived amongst the people rather than in convents. Mary was a courageous and faithful educator who met with much resistance in the Church but her blessed mission prevailed and, under her astute direction, by 1889 the Sisters’ schools had expanded throughout the east coast and into New Zealand.

Our only Australian Saint, Mary MacKillop was canonised in 2010 and remains an inspiration to us all for her courage, faith and perseverance.
